What Happened

The MasterPeace club in Burundi organized a MasterPeace Cup which is a series of capacity building through football games engaging vulnerable youth groups in Burundi. The country suffers long history and present of tensions that has been mounting for months in the lead up to the recent civil protests and failed military coup.  However, nothing new since the end of the Civil War in 2005, underlying development problems have been progressively worsening.

The project aims to give these vulnerable groups a new chance. Many of them have never tapped a real ball or even soccer. In addition to realiz-ing their football dream and create an opportunity for socio- economic re-integration of vulnerable youth from different neighborhoods in Burundi.

Africa is in love with football, Football is the most loved sport in Africa.
All Young people dream to become a professional footballer! And our club of Burundi used it as a tool to bring people together in the peace game

The Benefit/ Impact

– Give the targeted youth a safe space for meetings, dialogue and Learning on peace-building through sports.
– Strengthen and teach professional/vocational skills of those who are no longer in school.
– Raise the awareness of recipients’ families to support their education.

-Give a safe space to youngsters to express themselves and meet opposites in a fun and informative way

Next Steps

-Work on forming the 24 newly-formed teams participating in the training programs

-Spread the tournament some other neighbourinng MasterPeace Clubs in the region.

-Get some of the youngsters becoming the new trainers of the tournment
